Welcome to free readings about engines, here you will find the types of engines installed on cars and some useful information for car enthusiasts, good luck reading and welcome to the best information site in the automotive field.

2. A V-twin engine, also called a V2 engine, is a two-cylinder piston engine where the cylinders are arranged in a V configuration and share a common crankshaft.

The V-twin is associated with motorcycles, primarily installed longitudinally, though also transversely. They are also used in a variety of other land, air, and marine vehicles, as well as industrial applications.

3. A straight-three engine (inline-three), the cylinders are arranged in a line along a common crankshaft.

Less common than straight-four engines, straight-three engines have nonetheless been used in various motorcycles, cars and agricultural machinery, as time goes they become more popular among little cars and even sport cars like the Toyota Yaris GR

4. The Inline-four engine or the Straight-four, all four cylinders are mounted in a straight line along one crankshaft.

The single bank of cylinders may be in a vertical direction (straight up), or at an angle. When the cylinders are mounted at an angle, it is sometimes called a slant-four. When listed as an abbreviation, an inline-four engine is listed either as I4 or L4 (for longitudinal). L4 is often used to avoid confusion between the digit 1 and the letter I.

The inline-four layout is a mechanically simple engine. It has a natural basic engine balance. It is smoother than one, two, and three cylinder engines. This makes it popular for economy. It does have a problem with secondary engine balance. This causes minor vibrations in smaller engines. These vibrations become worse as engine size and power increase. The more powerful engines used in larger cars use a different engine layout to avoid this problem.

The most powerful four cylinder engine is in the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS.

5. the straight-five engine (also referred to as an inline-five engine) is a piston engine with five cylinders mounted in a straight line along the crankshaft.

Although less common than straight-four engines and straight-six engines, straight-five engine designs have been used by automobile manufacturers since the late 1930s. The most notable examples include the Mercedes Benz's diesel engines from 1974 to 2006 and Audi's petrol engines from 1979 to the present. Straight-five engines are smoother running than straight-four engines and shorter than straight-six engines. However, achieving consistent fueling across all cylinders was problematic prior to the adoption of fuel injection.

Fastest 5 cylinder car is the Audi ttrs roadster.

6. The straight-six engine (also referred to as an inline-six engine; abbreviated I6 or L6) is a piston engine with six cylinders arranged in a straight line along the crankshaft. A straight-six engine has perfect primary and secondary engine balance, resulting in fewer vibrations than other designs of six or fewer cylinders.

The inline 6 cylinder engine is very popular for the power it can have through tuning, the most famous cars like the BMW M3, M4 and Toyota supra have 6 cylinder engines and are capable of even 800+ hp without modifying the internal block parts.

  1. A single-cylinder engine, sometimes called a thumper, is a piston engine with one cylinder. This engine is often used for motorcycles, go-karts, power tools and it has never been used on a normal car.
